“Run Yu Feng, run!” shouted my older brother, Yu Ming
The last gunshot hit me and I was running as fast as I could. Drips of blood from my hand left a track to where I was heading to. The IRAs were going around asking whether which religion they believe in. It was a threaten to us. There was a riot outbreak and innocent children were injured and they were screaming and some went homeless.
I went back home waiting anxiously for Yu Ming. I was scared and alone at home. Both my mother and father died in the riots last week. Yu Ming was very independent and have always been taking care of me since young as our parents had no time for us. Yu Ming helped me every time I am in trouble.
The door open and I saw Yu Ming perspiring and panting. We stared at each other and there was silence.
“Listen to me! Those people out there are going to kill us anytime and I need you to
Stay at home and don’t ever open the door when I’m out. You hear me?” Yu Ming said in firm
yet shaky voice.
He cleaned my wounds and kept silent. Leaving the house without a word, he went for riot and took it like a man. It was probably one of his worst nightmares as he was always afraid of blood. I prayed hard that my brother would be safe and hopefully the riot would end tomorrow and there will be no conflict again.
Shots were exchanged outside my house and I sat down by the corner of my house hearing people screaming and shouting. Curtains were drawn and windows shut. As I look through the key hole, I could see blood all around. It was a total chaos.
I then heard someone banging the door before me. I couldn’t see anyone through the door hole so I tried to open the door cautiously. To my horror, I saw Yu Ming on the floor with one hand missing. I shut the door leaving him outside as I was afraid to be seen.
After it was all over, I opened the door and saw Yu Ming’s dead body. He was one of those who died on Bloody Sunday.
